Holland for Postcard Friendship Friday #171

grace bailhache holland postcardThird « rendez-vous » with Beth’s Postcard Friendship Friday  meme, after my West African postcard from Senegal, I’m back in Europe to take you to Holland  a region and former province in the western part of the Netherlands. Actually, everyone in France refers to this country by calling it Holland, so for us, Holland is the all country, yes it’s wrong, but bad habits are hard to break, right ?
This card was sent by a lovely dutch woman I met there called Anika, actually it’s wasn’t friendship at first sight, but a lunch after another, we found ourselves a lot in common. She knew my love for Vermeer’s  in particular The painting  Girl with a Pearl Earring that you can see in the middle of the windmills. I had a very happy time in my stay in Holland, basically I have worked as freelancer in Maastricht for almost two years. It’s a lovely small city and fortunately who moves two or three times to visited a part of the country with some colleague. Anita is part of my best « souvenirs » of Rotterdam, Amsterdam for the queen’s birthday and The Hague for the Jazz festival, but we never made it to Haarlem but you knows maybe one of this days ?

There’s a lovely daily prayer just above the girl with a pearl that maybe you can’t read :

oh lord, help me to keep my big mouth shout until I know what I’m talking about

I can’t wait to see other’s postcards of the day, if you want to joins us you can link yours here Postcard Friendship Friday !

  1. What a wonderfully interesting postcard! I have always wanted to visit Holland, as a part of my ancestry is from The Netherlands. It sounds like such a beautiful place.

Thank you for joining Postcard Friendship Friday.

I was married in May–and in 30 years it has only rained three times on our wedding anniversary. My parents were married in August–and here it does not rain then. It is just VERY VERY hot.

I hope you have a lovely day, Miss Grace! Happy PFF!

    1. Hello dear, yes it’s a beautiful country, and I haven’t seen half of what I could see, but time is still on my side ( I hope so). It’s my pleasure to join you, I wish I could once follow your week theme, who knows when, but I still hope.

So no one of you in the family is concerned by this june weddings. Actually we also never had rain of our weddings anniversary in 7 years, August is good for that at least for now and in France, I can’t tell for all the countries.

Don’t worry, she’s not going to be married tomorrow. Smiles ! The weekend normally tomorrow is to prepare next week and sunday we’ll go hiking.

  4. Hello Grace,

This is a very nice postcard and it’s lovely to see a lot of Dutch in blue on a single postcard. Thank you for sharing.

Thank you also for the kind comments you’ve posted on my blog. I am excited to read more on your page. I believe I will learn a lot. Also, I need to study French because the beau is French. Even though he speaks fluent English and a bit of Filipino (my mother tongue), I think it’s still important for me to learn his language.

It’s nice to meet you here in blogger’s world. See you around and I wish we can swap cards if you are into private swaps.

    Cheers from Manila,
    Maria

From what I saw on your blog, you are a very talented girl and I’m sure learning french won’t be so difficult, if you have around someone to speak to from time to time, let’s talk about it later and see if I can share some advice for you to get started.

You know there’s a lovely italian adage that says « the world is a country » and I love it because I feel it more and more. Yes I’m excited to be back on Beth’s meme, and last week I also integrate the posscrossings postcards. Of course I would delight to swap with you.
