Les Brown is a top Motivational Speaker, Speech Coach, and Best-Selling Author, he is one of my mentor and his speeches really empowered me when I needed it most. I want to share a lesson learned from him last year. Indeed, thisarticle was originallypostedinFebruary 2013, many of youhave nothad a chanceto read it,orwatch LesBrown video related to the topic. Thisis whyI makean updatebecause I believethis lesson could help you too. What exactly means expect the unexpected? At first I really had a problem with this « motto » because the whole phrase in itself negates what it wants to say. Why ? Simply because the unexpected is normally what you can’t prepare or imagine. But once, I heard this peace of motivational moment from Les Brown one of my mentor, it’s occured to me that « Expect the unexpected » ment more or less to be prepared for anything because something unexpected could easily happen. Finally I get the point and from that moment til now, while setting my goals, I accept the fact that things gonna happen that I never suspect, but I’m ready to deal with it, whatever is it. Thanks to this lesson, I try my best to focus on my vision and put besides me the thought « there no problem without solution ».

Great lesson from a wise man Grace. But did you know that the first appearance of the quote is by Heraclitus « If you do not expect the unexpected, you will not find it; for it is hard to be sought out, and difficult ».

Although I am not sensitive to your mentor charm, the subject is good. At this stage anybody with any sense knows to expect the unexpected, but sometimes that isn’t enough.
Too bad you don’t like Les Brown dearest Alphonsyne, but that’s like, one can’t please everyone and that for the best. Just out of curiosity, what do you mean by is not enough sometimes ?
Yes Grace your mentor is right and I faced it again lately because if your expecting the unexpected then your not expecting the expected which become unexpected. So it would be better to expect every possible outcome and so I try now.

Ale, great points. There are a lot of variables that go into unexpected by nature, what I do now it’s focus on the solutions and make sure to be prepared for the rest.
I don’t know this speaker Grace but this is what I can tell, when you grew up in a world of sailors, you must keep the golden SAILOR rule number one in mind, « expect the unexpected » because the ocea is unexpected itself.

Grace, you posts are really better and more informative day by day. With a bit of effort, you can build the habits and the willpower to deal with the unexpected more effectively. You always need to expect the crazy, out-of-the-blue things that even evil geniuses would have a hard time dreaming up for their enemies Only the ultra-prepared can laugh in the face of such unlikely circumstances.Thanks for sharing and posting such good article.

Most people in our culture have gotten used to the ordinariness of life. And we’re comfortable with them cause we pretty much know what to expect. But what if God wants us to get out of the ordinary? God ways are not our ways and he want us to expect the unexpected.God gives us more than we can handle he knows that we could handle it with his help.
