The Maid of Orléans for Postcard Friendship Friday #176

grace bailhache orleans france postcard

Youpi Ya Youpi Yé, it’s friday and Beth is back with her wonderful meme of Postcard Friendship Friday. Last week I shared my Paris vintage Eiffel Tower  and this friday I’ll be going for a mix of postcards, one real mine, and two founded on internet, the vintage one to show you the same place at differents time. Why did I choose this card sent two years ago by a lovely friend, he’s a gospel singer and he was leaving in Orleans at that time. Well, because, Joan of Arc also known is such an inspiration for me, what a character for that time, seing a young, poor woman fighting like a warrior is just amazing. It’s also another way to remind that the French national holiday is approaching,  actually it’s next sunday.  The Fête de la Fédération on the 14 July 1790 was a huge feast and official event to celebrate the uprising of the short-lived constitutional monarchy in France. As usual we will be celebrating all over the country with firemen’s balls to dance,  the fireworks to admire and a long long list of differents events to enjoy the national holiday.

When Joan arrived at Orleans in late April of 1429 the people of the city were desperate but Joan brought them hope that they would soon be delivered. They celebrate her memory till today. This postcard show a sculpture put in place called « Place du Martroi » in 1855, made by Denis Foyatier. The story says that the sculptor represents the maid thanking God and and that he used old English artillery to melte the statue.

The meme doors are open and I’m on my way to see others bloggers and what is Beth new theme this month at the Postcard Friendship Friday!
