I got to Boston from France and knew absolutely nothing. The workbar lunch and learn session Be Your Own Creative Director with Stephanie Schechter was announced in this preview post Next moves in Boston as part of my post bombing new schedule. WorkBar is a coworking spaces for teams, entrepreneurs and mobile professional. The website is just great, you find every informations that you need and more…That how I came across this lunch and had one of my serendipity AHA moment ! It’s took me less then five minutes to decide that I would attend the lunch and learn although I already had an appointment in Sommerville the same morning. Five inutes later, I had my ticket confirmation thanks to Event brite .
I finally reach the Atlantic avenue, my first move brings me elsewhere. Ooops !
Thanks god the Workbar is located at 711 Atlantic Avenue in a prime part of Boston right next to South Station, not even 5 minutes of walk is necessary.
Let get inside and follow the arrow. If I had to stay in Boston, this workspace would definitely be perfect for me, with both the advantages of a private office, ( printers, desks, phone rooms, conference rooms) and the advantages of a community ( diverses businesses, backgrounds and networking opportunities ) and I found the atmosphere social and friendly. Humm… I was so busy looking around, I quiet forget the lunch and learn. Thanks to a charming receptionist I notices that the session was about to really start….
Meet Stephanie Schechter Coach, Educator and Creative Director. Here is my review of the session :Lunch and Learn: Be Your Own Creative Director
Time : from 12:00 to 13:30 pm .
Price : $10 that includes lunch. ( the event brite fees are not included but it’s less than 2$)
The promise : to learn some basics of creative direction that will enable us to take charge and get most value of our identity design initiatives.
What we got : Stephanie delivery more than just the promise. She was very personable and informative about how to define a brand unique attributes, users motivations, goals and needs, the different steps to create a visual identity that will reflect the brand and resonate with the users, some design tips for creating professional looking, strategic logos, websites and print materials on a budget, how to prioritize the design initiatives and more.
Highly appreciated : The actionable worksheets and exercises to get started.
Not for me : this lunch thing, I rather eat before or after but not during.
My conclusion : Not only Stephanie Schechter was extremely knowledgeable but she was also attentive, helpful and easy to talk to after the session was over. I will happily follow the webinars she plans to do next. Thanks to her suggestion, I found a way to we found a great apartment and will hopefully not move again for at least a little while.
