Here in France we are bombarded with Christmas as soon as october shows and all those decorations, commercials are made to prepare us to buy at the right time. Last week I made a presentation and during the questions sessions, lot of the questions were about how do I sell my prospects ? People always says no to me, where did I do it wrong. Well obviously I didn’t made myself clear at the start, so I use Santa Claus to explain the difference between selling which is a final act and marketing which purpose is to create an environment to relax you, attract you so that you feel that you made the choice to buy.
Do Santa Claus sells you anything ? Do you know how he became so popular ? The marketing did it ! Don’t take me wrong, like some people did at the presentation, no offenses, just the brutal truth, Santa Claus has been build by using marketing tools, a good story tell and an attractiv caracter to rely on. He is not picthing anyone with « buy my stuff » or « this is a great opportunity for you. » No. He makes you dream.
Take a look at your business, and take a Santa Claus lesson to make your business stand out from the crowd and draw people to you without annoying them.
At the close of another year, I gratefully wish you a warm and happy Holiday Season.
we have non-secular, we have Santa Claus, but I still celebrate Jesus birthday at church like I used to with my grandma and still do with my own child. We also have a Kwanzaa celebration after.
I can understand that. But still, even there, I’m sure that they have an marketing plan for this one too, don’t you think so ?
Thank you Grace, I’ve just been searching for info about how to explain it more easily for a while and your way is the greatest I have came upon so far. However, what in regards to the bottom line? Are you positive about the source? Nice sunday to you.
Sorry Jason but I really don’t understand what you are talking about, which source ? Maybe you refer to another post ?

Interesting you mention Santa claus marketing. I attended a conference years ago just about this very subject and there’s no doubt that creativity, constant testing and experimentation is what’s necessary for marketers.
It’s a valuable information coach, I’ll try my best to attend more events next year really. Fortunate me I GOT you by my side.
Thanks for sharing Grace. For certain, the “hoop catch me if you can theory” is alive and well!
