One of my girl friend sends me this video two weeks ago and it’s the annual NASA Holiday lipdub video. Yes, I wrote it well the NASA. She’s american and she thought that maybe it’s wasn’t serious to do such a thing. Well, actually I didn’t agree with her, sorry Robin, but this video is a masterpiece for me, it’s not just funny but actually I found it really inspiring and here are the 3 reasons why I think next year some high level companies will (try) the same thing.
Reason #1: Clear message
Maybe my eyes are a little deformed but it’s the first question I asked myself inconsciously when I look at a (commercial) video. And it’s obvious that you can filled the blanks here. The objectives are clearly defines and so logically for the message is simple Nasa employees are like all of us, they might be the best in their aera they are still men and women that needs to have fun from time to time. The best messages work on a visceral level. They make you think, even better, they make you feel something, and this one makes you feel good and clever.
Reason #2: Awesome creativity
Creativity is an essential part of the video production process, there are many different styles, structures and purposes for corporate video and choosing the lipdub was challenging because you have to select the right song, give the right part to each and create a scenario that make sense for the audience. And they did ! The wall of fame is a powerful song that resonate to any of us, and most of all also support Nasa brand. Plus, they have used sort of Halloween party spirit combine with several references to space movies. The best part is that they really manage to make all that look very unprofessional. Don’t get me wrong it’s a professional work but it’s appears like a video made by employees. Actually that’s the impression I got but it’s didn’t bothered me on the contrary.
Reason #3: Perfect marketing plan and promotion
You might have the greatest video of the world but if no one sees it what’s the point ? A waste of time, energy and money. Obviously they have built a social media campaign and the all world told about this lipdub on the media. So even if the video were not as viral as the the phenomenal « gnagnam style », she went viral more easily than would do a classical commercial of the Nasa for instance.
I can understand why some people don’t like this video, but I’ve found it to be really inspiring. If you look at this, with your child or teenage eyes, I bet you’ll feel a difference.
Two days before the end of this year, so I want to thank you again and to send you my very best wishes for the New Year.
