Right now so many solopreneurs, homebased business entrepreneur or small businesses are looking for more leads, more traffic and more prospects to talk to. The number one question I have is about making phone calls to reach those goals. Except for the affiliate marketing, whatever business you are into, you CAN’T avoid talking to people on the phone. I am going to share with you the easiest ways I use to make my business calls and I will show you how they could help you overcome your fear.
Way #1: I never make a unprepared call
What does it’s means ? Today with google and the social media it’s easier to find a lot of informations about people or businesses. I do my homework. For business to business as well as business to consumers I learn as much as I can about the company or a prospect in particular.
The result : the person you call is no longer a perfect stranger and the call less cold because you have enough to warm up and engage their interest.
Way #2: I never make sales calls I build a relation
What does it’s means ? Of course you all have something to sell it’s not the point. The thing is that, thanks to my research, I always find a way to create a context that gives me a good reason to make that call. That way I have no reason to be, to act or to sounds like « salesperson ». I keep all the process simple, I stay myself BUT it’s always all about connecting with ONE OTHER. I listen more than I talk, I ask shorts questions, I mirror the other but I’m always polite and smily like for a casual conversation.
The result : By taking the calls like a game and not a huge challenge to win or die, I naturally have a different tone and style and don’t take things personnally.
Way #3: I always take my time
What does it’s means ? Before and during the calls I work with the mantra « relax, take it easy ». Before any call, I take a moment to do, hear or look something pleasant. During the call, no rush, I never say everything all at once because most of the time nothing happens with one phone call. So I take my time to make my call an opportunity to learn .
The result : Relaxing before the call gives more energy and helps you to express naturally passion in your tone. Anf when you take it’s easy, you never sound needy and you are ready to hear and understand the needs.
Actually plenty of books have been written on Cold Calling Techniques with tips and various scripts as well. But what I know for sure it’s that only practise and persistence really makes a huge difference.
And keep in mind that there is nothing to lose but a lot to gain and NEVER GIVE UP.
