Vintage masquerade ball at Moulin Rouge for Postcard Friendship Friday #179

grace bailhache postcart vintage paris moulin rouge
How was your week ?
A little busy for me and I’m really, really happy to enjoy my friday. Because, some things only happens on Friday. For instance I can easily jump into Alice’s wonderland one week and then I just have to push a button and here I’am travelling in the past like in the movie « back to the future » to be part of  « La Goulue » masquerade ball at the Moulin Rouge. I could also choose another type of travel, experimental, a direct fly into someone else body with my mind just like « Sam Beckett » aka Scott Bakula in the show Quantum leap, this time, I’ll know how it feel to be a small, sickly but so talented painter. No it’s not really the best choice to enjoy the masquerade ball, Toulouse Lautrec the famous painter wasn’t the type to wear a velvet mask, he has more like a watcher. But I don’t think La Goulue would be a better choice, but at least in her body, I would have danced the « french cancan » for the first time…Hum…I’m not capable to move like that by myself, but gosh how great it’s could be to feel it while using her body. A little silly right ? Well, I’m a dreamer and I like stories and while I was looking at this card, whoch was part of my friend Nikolai serie, he sent me this a week after my first costume party. In another life, I had organized several « Redoutes masquées » it’s more than just a costume party, it’s a real bal to dance and chat, but in a old fashion way, the most impportant in such a ball wasn’t we you were but you choosed to reprensent. It’s a dear dear « souvenir ».

    1. This is so nice to find such a lovely comment Beth. I’m finally back from my wedding trip, and I’m glad that you have appreciate this postcard.

  1. Hi Grace,

My little Frenchie boyfriend is in Paris right now to attend a wedding and to dance with his female cousin who’s the bride… earlier he sent me a photo of a dance rehearsal. I mention that because you wrote about French cancan, I’ll remember to ask him about that dance when we see each other at the end of the month.

    Cheers from Manila,
    Maria

PS. I mailed a postcard for you yesterday. Please let me know once you get it. Happy weekend!

    1. Hello dear Maria. That nice, I supposed it was a walz, it’s usually that one, but I will ask you about it on your blog. I finally answer to your mail and actually I also bought two postcards and don’t know yet which one I will send to you first tomorrow. Thanks sweetie, of course, I will sent you a mail to let you know when the card arrive.

  2. Hi Grace ~~ I am glad you can change for the weekend by pushing the little button. 🙂 Enjoy this one. We are still in London.

I like Toulouse Lautrec. I have one of his prints framed for my office, it is the one of Louis Pascal dressed in black and carrying a cane.

We also visited his museum in Albi in 2009. Mrs. Jim and our then 48-year-old son, Tim, and I visited southern France, Barcelona, northern France, Paris, and Bruges (Belgium) that Spring.

    1. Wow that wonderful Jim. The talented Toulouse Lautrec is one of my favorite of this period. I will check the Albi post of course. Thanks so much for stoppin by this post.

  3. The can-can was such a titillating dance, don’t you think? Who knew what you might catch a glimpse of with those swishing skirts and flying legs 🙂

    1. You’re totally right Violet…The bourgeois liked it very much and the Moulin Rouge was the place to be, to feel a little decadent, the can-can was very expected, but so dangerous too. Smiles !!!

  4. I don’t know much about the Masquerade Ball where does it come from, I don’t like Halloween. I like to see people without mask. Your story is nice and you have a lot imagination.

    1. Me neither Philippe, I just like it that all. Well I think we all wear masks in current life, some more than others. Thanks for the compliments.

  5. Very nice Grace, I like the card and the Carnival too. I dream to go to the masquerade of Venice. We have one here in Annecy it’s beautiful but not so beautiful that the Venetian masks.

    1. Ooo that sweet of you Genevieve, I’m very impressed, you really start to write in english again. What’s going on ? I hope to visit Annecy with you during the carnival next year.

    1. Kiminou’s ghost is back. Thank for your help. It’s came from Nikolai.
